What are Carbs

Carbs, or Carbohydrates are responsible for providing our body with the energy it needs for normal day to day functioning. Most importantly, carbohydrates help in the functioning of our brain cells and neurons. Carbohydrates are found in all plant foods like fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, etc and in milk and milk products. They are absent in meat and meat products.

The food which contains these complex carbohydrates takes time to dissolve in our body, which is why they keep us energized for a long time. The main food in which it is found is peas, legumes and whole grains.

Carbohydrate in Banana

Bananas are rich source of carbs, mainly in the form of sugar in ripe bananas and starch in raw bananas. The carb structure of bananas changes greatly during ripening. The main component of raw (unripe) bananas is starch. Green bananas contain 80% starch which is measured in dry weight. During ripening, the starch converts into sugars (sugar) and decreases to less than 1% when the banana is fully ripe. The most common types of sugar in ripe bananas are sucrose, fructose, and glucose. In ripe bananas, the total sugar content can reach more than 22% of fresh weight. So a banana contains near about 24% carbohydrate.

Bananas are great energy-giving foods. Taking a banana before a workout can greatly improve your time at the gym. It is one of the easiest carbohydrate rich sources.

When to Eat Banana

The most benefit of banana is obtained by eating in the morning and drinking milk after that. Eating banana in the morning is better. You can take it during the day also after eating food.

Banana is beneficial if you are very tired, have played a game or exercised. But always eating bananas at night and at bedtime is harmful for health. Always avoid eating any fruit at night.
